ShopBack Pay Is Being Switched Off In Malaysia

If you've been using ShopBack Pay as a checkout option, there's a deadline to take note of: ShopBack Pay will be discontinued in Malaysia starting 25 March. That means the payment option will disappear from the app, and you won't be able to use it for future purchases after that date.

This comes after an earlier change a couple of years back, when ShopBack ended support for its Buy Now Pay Later feature. Now, it's not just the "pay later" part that's gone — the entire ShopBack Pay payment method is being sunset.

Why ShopBack Is Doing This

ShopBack's explanation is the classic "focus and prioritise" move. In simple terms, they're saying they regularly review what they offer, then shift investment toward features that deliver the most value for both customers and partner merchants in Malaysia.

They also hint at a broader strategy: keep building what scales well, test new ideas, and only expand the ones that clearly prove they work. In other words, ShopBack Pay didn't make the cut compared to the other parts of the platform they want to push forward.

What Changes For Cashback And Rewards

The change isn't only about the payment button disappearing. There's also a reward-related cut-off tied to this shutdown.

Transactions made after 2 March using ShopBack Pay will no longer earn Return Cashback through that method. So even before the feature is removed on 25 March, the "earn rewards this way" part is already being phased out.

What Stays The Same

ShopBack says this shutdown is limited to ShopBack Pay as a payment method. Everything else on the platform is expected to remain available, and they're positioning this as a refocus rather than an exit. Their message is basically: they're still committed to Malaysia, and they're continuing to grow their cashback and rewards ecosystem — just without ShopBack Pay in the mix.

What You Should Do Next

If ShopBack Pay has been your go-to checkout option, it's a good time to switch your routine now rather than getting surprised later. Treat 25 March as the "it's gone" date, and treat 2 March as the "don't expect rewards from this method anymore" line.

Final Thoughts

Feature shutdowns like this usually signal one thing: the company is doubling down on what brings consistent usage and clear returns. For most users, the practical impact is simple — one less way to pay — but the bigger story is ShopBack trying to keep the platform focused on rewards that scale and partnerships that perform.
