Google’s Find My Device Now Lets You Share Your Real-Time Location With Friends and Family

If you've ever wished you could quickly let someone know where you are without constant texting, Google's got your back. The Find My Device app just got a handy new feature: real-time location sharingThink of it as Google's answer to Apple's "Find My" app. With this update, Android users can now share their live location with others—on their own terms. Whether you're coordinating meetups, checking in on loved ones, or just making sure someone knows you got home safe, it's all possible from right inside the app.

How it works? Super simple.

There's a new People tab (currently in beta) inside Find My Device. Tap on "New Share," and you'll be able to pick who you want to share your location with—and for how long. You can set it for just an hour, a whole day, indefinitely, or even customize it right down to the minute (from 1 minute up to 23 hours and 59 minutes). Don't feel like scrolling through contacts? You can also just send a shareable link.

Once it's set up, the app clearly shows who you're sharing your location with—and who's sharing theirs with you. The best part? They'll still be able to see your location even if the app isn't actively running, and even if you've turned off location permissions for other Google apps. And if you change your mind? You can revoke access at any time with just a tap.

This new feature builds on the updates Google made to Find My Device last year, like offline tracking for phones such as the Pixel 8, and location sharing for Bluetooth accessories like trackers or earbuds.

In short: it's easier than ever to stay connected, stay safe, and share your whereabouts—without constantly checking in.
