Doom (1993) is legendary for its relentless action, brutal difficulty, and, of course, its killer metal-inspired soundtrack. As a guitarist and a long-time Doom fan, I decided to pay tribute to one of the most underrated tracks in the game: E3M1 "Deep Into the Code." However, what was meant to be a full guitar cover ended up being tragically—and hilariously—cut short.
28 Seconds of Doom (Literally)
I started strong, fingers locked in on the fretboard, nailing the opening riff of Deep Into the Code while Doomguy ripped through the halls of Hell. The goal? Rock out to the full track while surviving in Episode 3, Mission 1. But fate had other plans.
At exactly 25 seconds, Doomguy met an untimely and embarrassing end, plastered by the demonic hordes before the music could even hit full stride. Game over, music over, metal dreams crushed.
Doom's Music – A Metalhead's Playground
Composed by Bobby Prince, the Doom soundtrack is infamous for its heavy metal influences, drawing inspiration from bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Pantera. Deep Into the Code is no exception—it's a driving, intense track that perfectly captures the chaos of Doom's third episode.
As a guitarist, playing Doom's music is like stepping into a power stance and letting pure aggression flow through the strings. But as a Doom player? Well… let's just say my reflexes were a little rusty.
Lessons Learned – More Riffs, Less Death?
- Don't Get Too Lost in the Music – Headbanging mid-game might not be the best survival tactic.
- Practice Both Guitar and Doom – Clearly, I spent more time learning the song than actually practicing the level.
- Next Time, I'm Finishing the Song! – This was just a warm-up. The full cover will happen… as long as I can survive longer than 28 seconds.
