IRB and MyDigital ID Team Up to Push Digital Identity Forward in Malaysia

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd are stepping up their game to make digital identity adoption in Malaysia more seamless and widespread. The two organizations are working hand-in-hand to integrate MyDigital ID into key platforms like MyTax and MySTR – a move that's expected to bring a new level of convenience, security, and trust to public services.

This partnership was made official with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Digital Identity Empowerment. The signing took place at Menara HASiL in Cyberjaya, with IRB CEO Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin and MyDigital ID CEO Mohd Mirza Mohamed Noor representing their respective teams. So, what's this all about? In simple terms, both IRB and MyDigital ID are on a mission to support Malaysia's digital transformation – especially in areas like taxation and government aid. By using digital identity technology, they aim to simplify online access, cut down on cybersecurity threats, and make the entire process more secure and user-friendly for the public.

In a statement, IRB emphasized that this collaboration isn't just about technology – it's also about building confidence. "This partnership shows our commitment to not only digitalising services, but also making sure people feel secure and confident when dealing with government platforms," the board said. The integration of MyDigital ID into MyTax and MySTR means smoother user access, faster transactions, and better protection of personal data. It also fits right into the government's larger plan to build a competitive and sustainable digital ecosystem nationwide.

And the numbers show it's already gaining traction. IRB shared that over 687,000 users have used MyDigital ID to verify their Tax Identification Number (TIN) on the MyTax portal. Meanwhile, more than 14,000 users have used it to access the MySTR platform. Ultimately, this MOU marks a major step toward a fully digital taxation system—one that's not only more efficient, but also inspires trust among users when it comes to digital governance and data security. Looking ahead, the IRB believes this kind of strategic partnership can unlock new opportunities and spark even more collaboration between the public and private sectors—pushing Malaysia closer to its digital future.
