Logitech G512 X Arrives With a Fresh Take on Gaming Keyboards

Gaming keyboards have been evolving steadily over the years, but every now and then, something comes along that feels like a genuine shift rather than just another incremental upgrade. That's exactly what Logitech is aiming for with its latest release — the G512 X TMR Analog/Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, which is officially making its way to Malaysia around mid-May 2026.

At first glance, it might look like just another premium keyboard, but once you dig into what it actually offers, you start to realise this is a very different kind of input device.

Moving Beyond Simple Key Presses

Most keyboards today operate on a simple principle: a key is either pressed or not pressed. It's binary, and for many use cases, that's perfectly fine. But for gaming, especially in genres that demand precision like racing or first-person shooters, that limitation has always been a bit of a bottleneck.

The G512 X changes that by introducing analog input, thanks to its use of TMR (Tunnel Magneto Resistance) sensors. Instead of just detecting whether a key is pressed, the keyboard can actually measure how far a key is pressed.

This opens up a whole new level of control. Imagine being able to gently press a key to walk slowly in a game, and then press it further to sprint — all on the same key. It's a concept that feels more like using a controller joystick than a traditional keyboard.

With adjustable actuation ranging from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm, users can fine-tune how sensitive each key is. Whether you prefer ultra-light taps or deeper, more deliberate presses, the keyboard adapts to your style rather than forcing you into a fixed setup.

A Hybrid Approach to Switches

One of the more interesting aspects of the G512 X is its hybrid design. Logitech isn't asking users to fully commit to analog switches — instead, it allows a mix of both analog and traditional mechanical switches on the same keyboard.

There are 39 hybrid switch slots that support this dual setup. Out of the box, the keyboard includes nine Gateron KS-20 analog switches, but it also works with widely available 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches.

What this means in practice is flexibility. You could, for example, set up analog switches on movement keys for gaming precision, while keeping mechanical switches on typing-heavy areas for that familiar tactile feel. It's a modular approach that feels very much in line with how enthusiasts like to customise their setups.

Built for Speed and Responsiveness

Performance is clearly a big focus here. Logitech is pushing what it calls a "true" 8KHz polling rate, which essentially means the keyboard communicates with your system at an extremely high frequency. The result is reduced input latency — something competitive gamers will definitely appreciate.

On top of that, there are additional features designed to improve gameplay:

There's also something called SAPP (Second Actuation Pressure Point) rings, which provide tactile feedback when you hit a secondary input stage. It's a subtle addition, but one that helps bridge the gap between analog precision and physical feedback.

Not Just About Performance — Design Matters Too

Logitech hasn't ignored aesthetics either. The G512 X comes with a LIGHTSYNC RGB light bar, enhanced with a PVD-coated finish that gives it a more refined, premium look.

Another standout feature is the inclusion of dual programmable dials, which can be customised through Logitech's G Hub software. These can be mapped to various functions — volume control, scrolling, or even in-game actions — adding another layer of usability beyond standard keys.

There's also a practical side to the design. The keyboard includes built-in storage for spare switches and tools, which is a nice touch for users who frequently tweak their setup. For those who prefer additional comfort, an acrylic palm rest will be available separately.

Availability and Pricing in Malaysia

For those interested, the G512 X will be available locally starting 16 May 2026, both through authorised retailers and Logitech's official stores on popular platforms like Lazada and Shopee.

Pricing is positioned in the premium segment:

It's not exactly a budget option, but given the technology and flexibility it offers, it's clearly targeting enthusiasts and serious gamers.

Final Thoughts

The Logitech G512 X isn't just another mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting and faster polling rates. It represents a broader shift towards more expressive and precise input methods, blending the best aspects of keyboards and controllers into a single device.

For casual users, it might feel like overkill. But for gamers who care about control, responsiveness, and customisation, this could be one of the more interesting keyboards to watch in 2026.
