Intel Reportedly Preparing CPU Price Hike of Up to 10% Before March 2027

Intel may be getting ready to raise processor prices across parts of its product lineup, with reports suggesting increases of as much as 10% could arrive before March 2027. The potential adjustment is expected to affect both client and server processors, although there is still no confirmed list of specific products that will become more expensive.

The report comes from Digitimes, citing supply-chain sources familiar with Intel's plans. For now, the expectation is that mobile and server products could feel the impact first, with desktop processors potentially following later. If the timeline is accurate, the price increase would land just as Intel prepares another major wave of CPU launches.

A Price Increase Could Arrive Alongside Intel's Next Major CPUs

March 2027 appears to be an important point on Intel's roadmap because the company is expected to introduce major annual products around that period. That could include the next-generation Nova Lake desktop family as well as successors to Intel's current Panther Lake mobile processors.

Nova Lake is reportedly scheduled to enter mass production during the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by a commercial release in the first quarter of 2027. That timing lines up closely with the reported price adjustment.

If Intel does increase pricing shortly before or alongside a new generation, consumers could end up paying more not only because newer processors are typically positioned above older models, but also because the company may be raising its overall average selling prices.

It Is Still Unclear Which CPUs Will Be Affected

One important detail remains missing: the supply-chain sources reportedly did not identify exactly which Intel processors would receive the increase.

Server CPUs are an obvious candidate because enterprise customers generally have much higher budgets and are less sensitive to small percentage changes than mainstream consumers. Mobile processors could also be affected through pricing agreements with laptop manufacturers.

Desktop buyers may not feel the change immediately. However, if Intel applies the increase more broadly across product categories, retail Core processors could eventually become more expensive as well.

Until Intel provides official pricing or its partners begin adjusting wholesale costs, the full impact remains speculative.

Nova Lake Could Arrive in a More Expensive Market

The timing makes Nova Lake particularly interesting. Intel's upcoming desktop family is expected to become one of the company's major next-generation platforms, potentially arriving during the same period as the reported price increase.

That means buyers planning a platform upgrade in early 2027 could face a very different pricing environment compared with current-generation hardware.

New processors normally command a premium at launch anyway, so an additional company-wide adjustment could make high-end Nova Lake configurations noticeably more expensive.

From a business perspective, raising average selling prices can help improve margins, particularly when manufacturing investment and development costs remain high. From the customer's perspective, however, it means stronger company revenue does not always translate into better value at retail.

If the latest report is correct, Intel may be preparing to continue that strategy into 2027.

Why CPU Prices Could Be Heading Higher

The semiconductor industry is dealing with a complicated combination of manufacturing costs, advanced packaging requirements and increasingly expensive process technology.

Modern processors are becoming more complex, using chiplets, larger caches and increasingly sophisticated packaging. High-end server and AI-oriented products in particular can carry substantial production costs.

Intel is also investing heavily in new manufacturing capacity and advanced process nodes while simultaneously competing with AMD and Arm-based platforms across several markets.

A price increase would therefore not be especially surprising, although whether customers accept it will depend heavily on the performance of the upcoming products.

Server Customers May Feel the Change First

If server processors are among the first products affected, the price increase could have a meaningful impact on enterprise IT spending.

Data-centre CPUs are already expensive, especially when purchased in large quantities. A 10% increase across hundreds or thousands of processors could translate into a substantial additional cost for cloud providers, enterprises and infrastructure operators.

Those customers may also have less flexibility to simply switch platforms, particularly when existing software and hardware environments are already built around Intel infrastructure.

This makes server pricing one of the areas where Intel potentially has more room to increase average selling prices without immediately losing large portions of demand.

Laptop Prices Could Also Be Affected Indirectly

Mobile processors are usually sold directly to manufacturers rather than consumers, which means any CPU price increase may eventually appear as higher laptop pricing rather than a visible processor price adjustment.

Manufacturers could choose to absorb some of the increase, reduce margins or adjust configurations to maintain existing price points.

Alternatively, consumers could see newer laptops launch at slightly higher prices.

Much will depend on how aggressive the increase is and whether competing AMD and Qualcomm platforms provide manufacturers with attractive alternatives.

AMD Could Follow With Its Own Price Increase

Intel may not be alone. Reports suggest AMD could also increase processor prices around June or July 2027, several months after Intel's expected adjustment.

That timing could allow AMD to avoid raising prices at exactly the same moment as its main competitor while still responding to similar market conditions.

It is not yet known whether AMD would apply the increase across its entire product portfolio or focus on particular categories such as server processors.

If both companies move in the same direction, buyers may have fewer opportunities to avoid higher CPU costs simply by switching between the two brands.

AMD's Venice Server CPUs Could Be Part of the Conversation

One future AMD product that could be affected is Venice, the company's upcoming Zen 6 server platform.

Venice is expected to introduce major architectural changes and, according to early information, could include enormous amounts of 3D V-Cache. Some configurations have been linked to as much as 1,152MB of L3 cache per chip, which would make them extremely specialised processors for data-intensive server workloads.

Hardware at that level is unlikely to be cheap regardless of wider market pricing.

If AMD also adjusts pricing in 2027, next-generation enterprise processors from both major x86 vendors could become noticeably more expensive.

Competition Will Determine How Much Pricing Power Intel Really Has

Intel can announce higher prices, but the market ultimately determines whether those prices hold.

AMD remains extremely competitive in desktop and server processors, while Arm-based platforms are becoming increasingly important in laptops and cloud infrastructure.

If Nova Lake or Intel's next-generation mobile processors deliver meaningful performance and efficiency improvements, customers may be willing to pay more.

If the gains are modest, a noticeable price increase could push buyers toward competing platforms or encourage them to keep existing hardware for longer.

That makes product performance particularly important when price adjustments happen close to a major launch.

Desktop Enthusiasts May Have More Flexibility

Unlike enterprise customers, desktop enthusiasts can often delay upgrades. If new processors arrive at unattractive prices, users can simply continue using their current systems or purchase discounted previous-generation CPUs.

That gives Intel somewhat less pricing power in the DIY desktop market.

A 10% increase on a mainstream processor may not look dramatic individually, but enthusiasts are already paying for the motherboard, memory and cooling required by a new platform. Small increases across several components can quickly make the total upgrade much more expensive.

This could make value comparisons between Nova Lake and competing AMD processors especially important in early 2027.

Existing CPUs Could Become More Attractive

If Intel raises prices on newer products, previous-generation CPUs could temporarily become better-value options, particularly if retailers discount existing stock.
