ASUS Opens Malaysian Pre-Orders for Limited ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle — Only 30 Sets Available

ASUS Republic of Gamers Malaysia has opened pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle, a highly limited package created to celebrate ROG's 20th anniversary. Only 30 bundles will be available nationwide, combining the special-edition ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld with matching ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses and several exclusive accessories.

The complete package is priced at RM10,999, placing it firmly in enthusiast territory. Rather than simply offering the handheld by itself, ASUS has assembled a premium portable gaming setup that includes AR display hardware, rugged protection and accessories designed specifically around the anniversary edition.

ROG Xbox Ally X20 Gets a Distinctive Anniversary Design

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is based on the existing ROG Xbox Ally X but receives a very different visual treatment for ROG's anniversary. ASUS has given the handheld a translucent black chassis with a bright gold internal structure, creating a design that exposes some of the visual character underneath the exterior shell.

It is not purely a cosmetic refresh either. One of the biggest upgrades is ASUS' new Nebula HDR Display, which increases the screen size to 7.4 inches and switches to an OLED panel. The larger display should provide deeper blacks, stronger contrast and a more vibrant image compared with the conventional panel found on the standard model.

The X20 retains the familiar handheld format while introducing enough changes to distinguish it from the regular Xbox Ally X.

AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Remains at the Heart of the Handheld

Performance continues to come from AMD's Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory. Storage is handled by a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, while an 80Wh battery provides the power required for portable gaming.

Those specifications are largely shared with the standard ROG Xbox Ally X, so the X20 is not intended to completely replace the existing model through significantly faster internal hardware. Instead, ASUS appears to be refining the overall experience around the display, controls, storage expansion and anniversary styling.

For owners primarily interested in raw performance, the difference may therefore be relatively modest. For collectors and enthusiasts, however, the complete package is considerably more distinctive.

Controls Receive Several Small but Useful Improvements

ASUS has made a number of refinements to the handheld's physical controls. The X20 now uses TMR joysticks, while the shoulder buttons and triggers have been made stiffer to provide a more deliberate feel.

The D-pad and face buttons have also been tuned to feel more tactile. An unusual addition is a rotatable D-pad, allowing users to switch between different surfaces depending on the type of game they are playing.

Meanwhile, the Xbox button now features a green backlight, adding another small visual detail to the anniversary edition.

These changes may not radically transform the device individually, but together they suggest ASUS has spent time refining the physical interaction rather than limiting the X20 to a new shell and OLED display.

microSD Express Adds Faster Expandable Storage

The handheld's microSD slot has also been upgraded to microSD Express, giving owners a faster option for expandable storage.

This is increasingly useful for handheld gaming PCs because modern games can consume enormous amounts of space. A 1TB internal SSD sounds substantial until several large AAA titles are installed, after which external expansion becomes much more appealing.

Faster microSD technology should help reduce one of the traditional disadvantages of removable storage, particularly when games need to continuously stream larger amounts of data.

A Custom dbrand Killswitch Is Included

The bundle comes with a specially designed dbrand Killswitch case made specifically for the ROG Xbox Ally X20. The rugged case includes reinforced grips and an integrated kickstand, making it useful both for protecting the handheld and positioning it on a desk.

Its black-and-gold design matches the 20th anniversary theme, while the accompanying face skin uses a circuit-board pattern inspired by the handheld's internal components.

ASUS is also including ROG-branded joystick covers, giving the entire package a more cohesive collector-focused appearance.

The Pelican Protector Case Takes Protection Even Further

For travelling, buyers also receive a customised Pelican Protector Case.

The case features red ROG latches and an exclusive 20th anniversary badge, providing much more substantial protection than a typical soft handheld carrying case. Given the RM10,999 price of the overall bundle, including something capable of protecting the hardware during transport makes sense.

A 68W charger is included as well, so buyers receive the major accessories needed to use and travel with the handheld immediately.

ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Turns the Handheld Into a Giant Virtual Display

The second major product in the package is the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses. This anniversary version adopts the same black-and-gold styling as the handheld, although its technical specifications remain essentially identical to the standard ROG XREAL R1.

The glasses connect directly to the Xbox Ally X20 through a single USB Type-C cable, providing a large virtual display without requiring a television or physical monitor.

For portable gaming, that could significantly change the experience. Instead of spending long sessions looking down at the handheld's 7.4-inch display, users can effectively create a much larger screen directly in front of them.

A Virtual 171-Inch Display at 240Hz

The ROG XREAL R1 uses micro-OLED displays operating at up to 240Hz. ASUS says the glasses can simulate a virtual 171-inch Full HD display viewed from approximately four metres away.

They also support output of up to 4K at 60Hz, giving users the option of prioritising resolution over the very high refresh rate depending on the content.

For gaming, the 240Hz capability is especially interesting because handheld titles running at higher frame rates can benefit from extremely smooth motion. The glasses therefore offer more than simply a larger image.

The package effectively turns the X20 into a compact gaming system capable of delivering a much more immersive visual experience while remaining portable.

3DoF Tracking Helps Keep the Virtual Screen in Place

The glasses also include 3DoF spatial tracking powered by XREAL's X1 chip.

Instead of having the virtual screen remain permanently attached to the user's line of sight, spatial tracking can make it appear fixed within the surrounding environment as the wearer moves their head.

The R1 also features electrochromic dimming, allowing users to adjust how much of the real environment remains visible behind the display.

Audio is handled through a Bose-tuned sound system, meaning users do not necessarily need to carry separate headphones for casual use.

The Entire Bundle Is Limited to Just 30 Units

The biggest restriction is availability.

ASUS ROG Malaysia says only 30 ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundles will be sold nationwide. Pre-orders open on 2 October at 8pm, with the complete package priced at RM10,999.

Given the extremely limited quantity, this appears targeted as much toward collectors and dedicated ROG enthusiasts as conventional handheld gaming buyers.

Someone primarily interested in owning an Xbox Ally device will almost certainly find more affordable options elsewhere in ASUS' lineup. The X20 Bundle instead combines several premium products into a commemorative package.

Early Buyers Receive an Exclusive Loot Box

Customers who successfully place their orders between 2 and 15 October will also receive an ROG Ally Limited Edition Loot Box.

ASUS has additionally introduced purchase-with-purchase promotions providing 20% discounts on selected ROG gaming gear. That could be useful for buyers who want to complete the setup with matching peripherals.

Naturally, with only 30 bundles available, the promotional period may be less relevant if stock disappears shortly after pre-orders open.

More Than Just an OLED Refresh

At first glance, the Xbox Ally X20 might appear to be an OLED version of the existing Xbox Ally X wrapped in an anniversary shell. The overall package suggests ASUS is aiming for something more elaborate.

The Nebula HDR OLED panel is certainly one of the biggest attractions, but improvements to the joysticks, triggers, buttons, D-pad and microSD storage all contribute to the experience. The customised dbrand case and Pelican enclosure further reinforce the collector-focused nature of the product.

Adding the XREAL R1 glasses then changes the proposition completely. It becomes less of a standalone handheld purchase and more of a portable premium gaming setup.

Final Thoughts

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle is clearly not designed to compete on value. At RM10,999, it costs considerably more than a conventional gaming handheld, and restricting availability to only 30 units makes it an intentionally exclusive product.

What buyers receive, however, is more than an anniversary-coloured Xbox Ally. The X20 brings a larger 7.4-inch OLED display, refined controls, microSD Express support and distinctive translucent black-and-gold styling while retaining the capable Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme platform, 24GB of memory and 80Wh battery.

The addition of the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 glasses, customised dbrand Killswitch and Pelican Protector Case completes what is essentially an enthusiast collector's package built around portable PC gaming.

For most gamers, the standard ROG Xbox Ally family will remain the more sensible purchase.

For the 30 buyers who want one of the most elaborate versions ASUS has created, however, the X20 Bundle is clearly designed to be something much more unusual.
