Redesigned Disney+ App Now Available In Malaysia With Hulu And ESPN Integration

Disney has started rolling out the redesigned Disney+ app in Malaysia, introducing a completely refreshed interface and a new way for subscribers to browse content. The updated experience separates programming into dedicated Disney and Hulu sections while also adding sports and live broadcasts from ESPN. The new app is now available locally through both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The redesign was first announced for Malaysia last month, and the updated version is now beginning to reach users. Rather than simply giving the existing app a visual refresh, Disney has reorganised the service around its different entertainment brands. The result is a more segmented interface that makes it easier to move between movies, television series, platform exclusives and sports.

Disney And Hulu Now Have Dedicated Sections

One of the biggest changes is the addition of separate Disney and Hulu areas within the app. Subscribers can browse content from each brand independently instead of relying entirely on a single combined catalogue. This should make it easier for users to understand where particular shows and movies originate while giving each content library a more distinct identity.

The updated interface also introduces dedicated tabs for movies, television series and exclusive content. This provides more direct navigation compared with searching through a single home screen. For subscribers with large watchlists or specific viewing preferences, the additional organisation should make discovering content more straightforward.

ESPN Sports And Live Broadcasts Join Disney+

Sports is another major addition to the redesigned Malaysian version of Disney+. The service now includes ESPN programming together with selected live broadcasts, expanding Disney+ beyond its traditional focus on movies and television series. This gives subscribers access to sports content without needing to leave the Disney+ ecosystem.

The integration also makes the app more diverse as an entertainment platform. A household can now move between Disney films, Hulu shows and ESPN sports from the same application. This broader mix of content could make Disney+ more useful for families where different members have very different viewing interests.

A More Modern Browsing Experience

The redesigned interface is intended to make navigating Disney+ feel more modern and organised. Instead of presenting all content in roughly the same way, the app now gives its major brands dedicated spaces while still providing category-based browsing. The change makes the service feel more like a unified entertainment hub rather than simply a streaming library.

Separating Disney, Hulu and ESPN content can also reduce some of the clutter that naturally appears as a streaming catalogue expands. As more titles and content types are added, clearer navigation becomes increasingly important. The redesign appears to be Disney's attempt to make that growing catalogue easier to understand.

Subscription Prices Remain Unchanged

Despite the significant redesign and the addition of ESPN content, Disney+ subscription pricing in Malaysia remains unchanged for now. The Disney+ Standard plan continues to cost RM29.90 per month or RM214.90 per year. Customers who prefer the Premium plan will continue paying RM289.90 annually.

There has been no announcement of a price increase linked directly to the redesigned application. This means existing and new subscribers can access the refreshed platform without paying more simply because of the interface changes. Whether pricing remains unchanged longer term will depend on Disney's future plans for the Malaysian market.

Existing Viewing History Will Not Carry Over

The biggest inconvenience for existing subscribers is that their viewing history will not transfer to the redesigned version of Disney+. Disney says users will need to create a new profile when moving to the updated app. This effectively resets the personal viewing data associated with the previous version.

For long-time users, that means previously watched titles and established recommendations will not automatically appear in the new experience. Subscribers will need to gradually rebuild their profile by watching content and interacting with the service again. Over time, Disney+ should begin generating personalised recommendations based on the new viewing history.

Recommendations Will Need To Be Rebuilt

The reset may be particularly noticeable for users who relied heavily on Disney+ recommendations to discover new shows and movies. Personalised suggestions depend on viewing behaviour, so a newly created profile initially has much less information to work with. The recommendations may therefore feel more generic until enough new viewing activity has been recorded.

This is one of the trade-offs associated with the transition to the redesigned platform. While the interface and content structure have improved, existing users lose some of the personalisation accumulated through their previous profile. For subscribers with years of viewing history, rebuilding that information could take some time.

Available Through Apple App Store And Google Play

The redesigned Disney+ app is being distributed locally through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Users should therefore check that they are running the latest available version if the new interface has not yet appeared. As with many major app updates, availability may roll out progressively rather than appearing for every user at exactly the same moment.

Once updated, subscribers should notice the new navigation structure together with the Disney, Hulu and ESPN sections. Existing subscribers should also be prepared to create a fresh profile during the transition. The service itself remains available under the same Malaysian subscription plans.

Final Thoughts

The redesigned Disney+ app represents a significant change for Malaysian subscribers, bringing Disney, Hulu and ESPN together within a more structured entertainment platform. Dedicated sections for movies, television series and exclusive content should make browsing easier, while the addition of ESPN expands the service into live sports and sports programming.

The good news is that subscription prices remain unchanged for now, with Standard still priced at RM29.90 per month or RM214.90 per year and Premium at RM289.90 annually. The downside is that existing viewing history will not transfer, forcing subscribers to create new profiles and rebuild their recommendations. Even with that inconvenience, the redesign gives Disney+ a broader and more organised foundation for its Malaysian streaming service.
