Bye Bye TM Streamyx/Unifi Lite Services Starting 28 February 2025

Telekom Malaysia (TM) just announced on its official website that it's shutting down all copper network-based services by February 28, 2025. That means Streamyx and Unifi Lite users will need to switch over to TM's fibre-based Unifi Broadband plans as soon as possible—if they haven't already.

TM has announced that the copper network in your area will be phased out starting February 28, 2025, as part of an upgrade to faster and more reliable fibre internet, in accordance with MCMC's directive. The company also made it clear that after this date, it will no longer address any issues related to the copper network. Customers who don't switch to fibre before the deadline will face service termination for Unifi Lite and Streamyx.

Customers on older plans who want to upgrade can do so by clicking the "Migrate Now" button on the website or visiting their nearest Unifi Store or TM Point. TM assures that after upgrading, customers will keep their current internet speed and monthly bill.

As for installation, the timeline depends on whether fibre infrastructure is available in the area. If it's already in place, most migrations are completed within 14 business days. However, in areas without existing fibre, TM will inform customers about when it will be ready. According to the FAQ, setting up new fibre infrastructure can take anywhere from 30 to 180 business days.

This marks the official end of TM's Streamyx era, which relied on copper networks for broadband internet. Originally introduced in 2001, the service offered speeds between 384kbps and 2Mbps. By 2019, Streamyx was streamlined into a single plan with 8Mbps download and 512kbps upload speeds, later rebranded as Unifi Lite. Then, in 2022, TM revealed its plan to fully retire its legacy copper-based network by 2025.
