Phone Free February Challenges

Hey, do you ever feel like you're glued to your phone a little too much? Yeah, same. Turns out, just cutting back an hour a day can actually make a big difference for your health. And that's exactly what Phone Free February is all about! It's a nonprofit challenge encouraging people to go phone-free—or at least almost phone-free—throughout February. The Washington Post even covered it, so you know it's legit. Think you could give it a shot?

Let's be real—going completely phone-free just isn't practical for most of us. Even the folks behind Phone Free February get that. Jacob Warn, one of the campaign's co-creators, says the goal isn't to ditch your phone entirely but to simply cut back on how much you use it overall. Makes sense, right? I mean, pretty much everyone has a smartphone these days, and about a third of Americans admit they're always on some kind of device. So, this challenge is really about making you pause and ask yourself: Do I really need to be on my phone right now?

If you're up for it, experts have some solid tips to help you scale back this February. Want to hear them?

Spending too much time glued to your phone isn't just a habit—it could actually be messing with your health. Research is starting to show that more screen time is linked to things like obesity, sleep issues, and even mental health struggles. And it's not just a theory—psychologists are seeing more and more people dealing with full-on device addiction. That's why experts say Phone Free February is worth a shot.

The good news? Cutting back even a little can make a difference. Jennifer Margaret Katzenstein, a psychology expert at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, says that just reducing phone use by an hour a day—not even going completely offline—can seriously improve your quality of life and even help with depression.

So, maybe it's time to give it a try?
