Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) is teaming up with Meta—the company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—to set up a joint innovation lab in Malaysia. This collaboration aims to enhance real-time communication (RTC) services by leveraging the power of 5G connectivity.
While the finer details are still being finalized, the partnership is focused on optimizing network performance and developing advanced technologies to improve RTC experiences. In simple terms, this means better voice and video call quality, reduced lag, and smoother messaging experiences for users on Meta's platforms. According to DNB, the innovation lab will work on refining network optimization techniques to cut down latency, increase bitrate, and ensure more reliable calls. The goal? A significant boost in call clarity and overall communication quality for users on Malaysia's 5G network.
DNB's Chief Technology Officer, Ken Tan Tzi Kieng, sees this as a game-changer. "This collaboration strengthens our commitment to network excellence and continuous innovation, ensuring that mobile network operators and their customers get the best possible service," he said. On Meta's side, Vice President of Network Engineering Vinod S highlighted the company's commitment to improving mobile networks globally. "We're excited to work with DNB to enhance real-time communication on our platforms and drive innovation in the connectivity ecosystem," he said.
DNB isn't stopping there. On the same day, the company also inked a deal with Ericsson to push enterprise digitalization and expand the global API network. This move is expected to make it easier for developers to integrate new features into applications, speeding up innovation in the digital space. With these collaborations, DNB is positioning itself at the forefront of Malaysia's 5G revolution, ensuring that both businesses and everyday users benefit from smoother, faster, and more reliable connectivity.
