Rapid KL Hints at Handy My50 Pass Renewal in Pulse App

Good news could be on the horizon for daily commuters in the Klang Valley: Rapid KL has teased a long-awaited upgrade for its Pulse mobile app, and it's all about the popular My50 monthly pass.

What's Being Teased?

The news came from Rapid KL's official Facebook page, where they dropped a hint about a new feature that promises to make commuting more convenient. While they didn't spill all the beans, they clearly pointed towards the My50 pass — sparking hopes that users will soon be able to renew their monthly pass directly through the app.

If that's true, it's a change that's been high on many commuters' wish lists for years. Right now, renewing the My50 pass still means lining up at LRT, MRT, or KTM station counters — not exactly ideal, especially during rush hours.

What We Know So Far

Details are still thin. Rapid KL says the new feature will be fast, easy to use, and will help people avoid queues — which strongly hints at an in-app pass renewal system. But there's no official launch date yet, nor any clear information about how exactly it will work.

Given how the current My50 pass works — tied to a Malaysian MyKad and using NFC tech — there's a good chance that renewing it via Pulse will require a phone with NFC capability. Think of how people already top up their Touch 'n Go cards using the TnG eWallet app: tap, wait a second, done.

Could This Link to Touch 'n Go Too?

Interestingly, this update connects to something Rapid KL promised earlier this year: they announced plans to make the My50 pass compatible with the Touch 'n Go NFC card, which would free it from being tied exclusively to MyKad. That rollout was originally expected in May 2025 but hasn't happened yet.

So, is this Pulse app feature part of that bigger plan? For now, Rapid KL hasn't confirmed — but it definitely seems to point in that direction.

What's Next for Commuters?

Until Rapid KL releases more details, commuters will have to keep an eye on Pulse app updates and official announcements. But if this goes live, it could mean no more lines, no more station counter stress — just tap and go, all from your phone.

For daily train and bus riders, that's a small improvement that could save a lot of time every month. Fingers crossed Rapid KL makes this official soon!
