Apple “Welcome Home” Event Officially Set For 13 October 2026

Apple has officially confirmed that it will hold a new product launch event on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, following weeks of rumours surrounding several upcoming devices. The company has started teasing the event under the tagline "Welcome home", strongly suggesting that smart home products will take centre stage. Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak shared a short teaser video on X, while invitations have also been sent for an "Apple Experience" scheduled for 9am ET, which translates to 9pm in Malaysia.

The timing lines up closely with earlier reports that Apple was preparing a dedicated October event for its next generation of home-focused hardware. While Apple has not yet confirmed exactly what will be unveiled, the wording of the campaign gives a fairly clear indication of the direction the company is heading. After years of relying mainly on HomePod and Apple TV as the centrepieces of its smart home strategy, Apple now appears ready to expand the category more aggressively.

"Welcome Home" Points Strongly Towards Smart Home Products

The event tagline is arguably the biggest clue surrounding the launch. Apple could have used a more generic phrase if the event were focused on Macs, iPads or other computing products, but "Welcome home" makes the smart home connection difficult to ignore. That fits neatly with months of leaks surrounding a new home hub designed to become a central control point for Apple's connected devices.

The company has gradually expanded its smart home ecosystem through HomeKit, Matter support, HomePod and Apple TV, but it has yet to offer a dedicated smart display in the same way some competitors do. The October event could finally change that. If the leaks are accurate, Apple may be preparing to make the home a much larger part of its hardware strategy.

HomePad Could Be The Headline Product

The most anticipated device is the long-rumoured Apple smart home hub, unofficially referred to as the HomePad. Previous reports have associated the product with the internal codename J490 and suggest that it will feature a 6-inch display. The screen is reportedly designed to be relatively slim, with a thickness comparable to an iPhone.

The device is expected to support multiple placement options, allowing users to either position it on a countertop or mount it on a wall. That would make it suitable for kitchens, living rooms, hallways or other shared areas where household members could easily interact with it. The overall concept appears to be closer to a dedicated home control panel than a traditional tablet.

An iPad-Like Interface With Smart Home Controls

Leaks suggest that the HomePad will use an interface inspired by the iPad, although presumably simplified for quick household interactions. The device could act as a central dashboard for controlling lights, cameras, thermostats and other compatible smart home equipment. A dedicated screen could also make HomeKit and Matter-based devices easier to manage without requiring users to constantly reach for an iPhone.

The HomePad is also rumoured to support intercom-style communication between different rooms or Apple devices. Facial recognition has been mentioned as another possible capability, potentially allowing the interface to display personalised information depending on who is standing in front of it. If implemented well, that could make the device function as a shared family hub rather than simply another screen.

New Siri AI Could Be At The Centre Of The Experience

The three major smart home products expected at the event are said to be built around Apple's new Siri AI. That would make artificial intelligence a central part of the company's renewed home strategy rather than just another software feature. A more capable Siri could potentially make voice interaction more useful across HomePod, Apple TV and the rumoured HomePad.

For Apple, the smart home would also be a logical environment in which to showcase a more conversational and context-aware assistant. Voice interaction becomes particularly valuable when users are cooking, moving around the house or controlling devices without wanting to open an app. The success of these products could therefore depend heavily on how much Siri has improved.

New HomePod Mini And Apple TV 4K Also Expected

Alongside the HomePad, Apple is also rumoured to be preparing a new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV 4K. Neither product would be completely unexpected, as both lines are due for refreshes and already play important roles in Apple's home ecosystem. The combination of all three products would give Apple a much more complete smart home hardware lineup.

A refreshed HomePod mini could strengthen voice control and audio coverage around the home, while a new Apple TV 4K could serve as a more powerful entertainment and smart home hub. Together with the HomePad, Apple would have devices covering display, audio, television and central home control. That broader lineup could make the ecosystem feel much more cohesive.

Apple And LG May Have More Smart Home Hardware Planned

Recent reports have also claimed that Apple is working with LG on additional smart home products. Details remain limited, but the partnership could point towards a broader range of connected displays, appliances or home accessories being developed behind the scenes. Even if these products are not ready to launch on 13 October, Apple could potentially preview some of them or outline a longer-term strategy.

A closer relationship with LG would also make sense given the company's experience in displays, home appliances and connected household technology. Apple does not necessarily need to manufacture every smart home device itself if it can build deeper integrations with established hardware partners. That approach could help expand the Apple home ecosystem more quickly.

MacBook And iPad Announcements Are Less Likely

Despite several other Apple products being rumoured for October, the "Welcome home" theme suggests that Macs and iPads are unlikely to be the focus of this particular event. Reports have mentioned an OLED touchscreen MacBook and a new iPad mini, but those devices are believed to be planned for a separate launch later in the month. Keeping the product categories apart would allow Apple to give its smart home strategy more attention rather than squeezing everything into one event.

A second event has been rumoured for 27 October 2026. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested that the later launch could include a 14-inch MacBook Pro and a new iMac powered by Apple's M6 chips. However, Apple has not officially announced this second event, so those details remain speculative for now.

Two October Events Would Be Unusual But Not Impossible

Apple has occasionally spread product announcements across several weeks rather than putting everything into one presentation. If the company does hold another event on 27 October, the first half of the month could focus entirely on the smart home while Macs and iPads follow later. This would give both categories more room to stand out.

It would also fit Apple's increasingly segmented launch strategy, where certain products are introduced through dedicated presentations, press releases or smaller experiences rather than one enormous event. For now, though, only the 13 October "Welcome home" event is confirmed.

Final Thoughts

Apple's "Welcome home" event on 13 October 2026 looks set to be one of the company's most important smart home launches in years. The rumoured HomePad, updated HomePod mini and new Apple TV 4K could collectively represent a much more ambitious push into the connected home, particularly if they are all built around a more capable Siri AI.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions, including how the HomePad will be priced, how deeply it will integrate with existing HomeKit and Matter devices, and whether Apple's collaboration with LG will be discussed. For now, the event tagline provides the clearest clue: Apple appears ready to make the home a much bigger part of its ecosystem.
