Malaysia’s Internet Traffic Hits New High in 2024, Driven by Digital Growth

Malaysia experienced a significant spike in internet traffic throughout 2024, according to new data from the Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX). The country recorded a 17% year-on-year increase, reaching a peak of 2.6 terabits per second (Tbps)—a historic high for MyIX.

In a statement following its 17th Annual General Meeting, MyIX highlighted that this surge in traffic underscores Malaysia's increasing dependence on fast, stable internet infrastructure. The growth has been largely driven by the growing demands of businesses, content providers, and consumers, all of whom are contributing to a more connected and digital-first economy.
