Motorists in several parts of Selangor can temporarily park without making payment through the usual apps, following a major disruption involving the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) platform. The outage has affected more than just one parking application. Because SIP is used as the underlying system for several services, users have reportedly been unable to access parking payment functions through Smart Selangor Parking, Nine, Flexi Parking, Jom Parking, Touch 'n Go eWallet, and Setel.
With the platform still unavailable, the Selangor government has confirmed that parking charges and enforcement compounds will be suspended until the issue is fully resolved.
No Parking Payments or Compounds Until Further Notice
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the temporary measure was introduced after receiving complaints from motorists who could not access the SIP payment feature.
Rather than expecting users to pay through a system that is currently unavailable, the state has chosen to pause enforcement entirely. This means motorists in affected local council areas should not be charged parking fees or issued compounds while the disruption continues.
The decision is important because parking systems are increasingly tied to mobile apps and digital payment platforms. When the central service fails, motorists may have no practical way to make payment even if they are willing to do so. Suspending enforcement helps prevent confusion and avoids penalising users for a technical issue outside their control.
Server Migration Reportedly Behind the Disruption
According to Amirudin, the SIP technical team is working on upgrading the platform as part of a migration to a new server environment.
A server migration can be a complex process, particularly for a system used by multiple applications, councils, payment providers, and motorists across the state. It may involve moving databases, updating integrations, testing payment records, validating user access, and ensuring that real-time enforcement information remains accurate.
While such upgrades are meant to improve the long-term reliability of the platform, the temporary outage shows how dependent modern parking operations have become on a central digital service.
At the time of writing, the SIP platform and the connected parking apps have yet to return to normal operation.
Local Councils Have Also Paused Enforcement
Several local authorities have separately confirmed that they are suspending parking enforcement during the outage.
Petaling Jaya City Council, or MBPJ, has stated that enforcement activity will remain suspended until the SIP system is functioning normally again. Meanwhile, Subang Jaya City Council, or MBSJ, has advised motorists to wait for an official notice once the platform has been restored.
For drivers, the key takeaway is straightforward: there is no need to keep retrying different parking apps or worry about being compounded while SIP remains down. However, motorists should still stay alert for updates because normal parking payments and enforcement are expected to resume once services are restored.
Recovery Work Focuses on Security and Data Integrity
Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated-owned company responsible for overseeing SIP, said the temporary shutdown is part of a broader recovery process.
The company explained that it is conducting a technical assessment to ensure the platform can return in a stable condition and meet the necessary standards for security, reliability, and data integrity.
That focus is especially important for a system that handles parking information, payment-related activity, and integrations with multiple third-party apps. Bringing the service back too quickly without proper testing could create further problems, such as inaccurate parking records, failed transactions, duplicated payments, or unreliable enforcement data.
Taking the time to assess and stabilise the platform may cause short-term inconvenience, but it is the more responsible approach if the goal is to restore the service properly rather than simply making it appear available again.
Use Official Channels for Updates
RMSB has apologised for the disruption and urged users to rely only on official SIP and RMSB communication channels for updates. This is sensible, especially when social media posts and unofficial messages can easily create confusion during a service outage.

Final Thoughts
The SIP outage is inconvenient, particularly for motorists who rely on mobile apps to manage parking payments, but Selangor's decision to suspend charges and compounds is a fair response.
For now, the priority is restoring the platform safely and ensuring that it can support the various parking apps and local councils without further disruption. Until an official recovery announcement is made, motorists in affected areas should monitor verified SIP or local council updates before parking enforcement returns to normal.
