Setel Savers: A New RM4.90 Monthly Subscription for Users Who Want More Rewards

Setel has introduced a new paid membership programme called Setel Savers, priced at RM4.90 per month. The idea is fairly straightforward: users who already rely on Setel for fuel payments, Kedai Mesra purchases, EV charging, and vehicle-related services can now subscribe to receive extra rewards and savings within the same app ecosystem.

For regular Setel users, this is not just another random subscription. It is Setel's attempt to turn everyday spending into a more structured rewards programme. Instead of using the app only when refuelling, Setel Savers gives users more reasons to stay within the platform for convenience store purchases, EV charging, bill payments, and car maintenance-related transactions.

What Setel Savers Offers

The main benefit of Setel Savers is the additional Mesra Rewards points. Subscribers can earn an extra 2x Mesra Rewards points for every RM5 spent through eligible Setel transactions. However, DuitNow transactions are excluded from this offer.

This makes the subscription more useful for users who are already actively spending through Setel. If someone only uses the app occasionally, the value may not be very obvious. But for users who consistently use Setel to pay for petrol, shop at Kedai Mesra, or use other services within the app, the extra points could slowly add up.

Setel Savers is also clearly designed to encourage users to treat Setel as more than just a fuel payment app. Over time, Setel has been expanding into a broader mobility and lifestyle platform, and this subscription fits into that direction.

Extra Rewards at Kedai Mesra

Kedai Mesra shoppers also get additional perks under the Setel Savers membership. Subscribers can earn up to 400 Mesra Rewards points when they spend a minimum of RM10 at Kedai Mesra.

The offer can be redeemed up to four times, which makes it more practical for users who regularly stop by Kedai Mesra for snacks, drinks, or daily convenience items. It is not a massive reward by itself, but when combined with fuel purchases and other Setel transactions, it adds another layer of value to the membership.

This is also a smart move from Setel because fuel stations are no longer just about petrol. Convenience store spending has become a key part of the overall petrol station experience, especially for users who regularly stop during commutes or road trips.

EV Charging Users Are Included Too

Setel Savers also includes a reward for EV users. Members can receive 300 Mesra Rewards points after accumulating RM300 worth of EV charging sessions through the platform.

This is a notable addition because Setel has been gradually positioning itself as part of Malaysia's wider mobility ecosystem, not just a petrol payment app. With more EV chargers appearing around the country and more Malaysians slowly considering electric vehicles, it makes sense for Setel to include EV charging in its rewards programme.

The reward may not be a game-changing benefit on its own, but it shows that Setel is preparing for a future where petrol, EV charging, convenience purchases, and vehicle services are all managed through one app.

Car Service and Maintenance Cashback

Another benefit under Setel Savers is cashback for car service and maintenance expenses. Eligible users can receive up to RM60 cashback, depending on the applicable terms and conditions.

This is useful because vehicle ownership is not only about paying for fuel. Maintenance, servicing, and repair costs are part of the overall cost of keeping a car on the road. By including vehicle-related cashback, Setel is trying to make the subscription feel more complete for drivers.

For users who already plan to service their car through Setel-linked services or partners, this cashback could make the monthly subscription easier to justify. However, as with most cashback offers, users should check the exact eligibility requirements before assuming the full amount applies automatically.

The Free Trial Makes It Easier to Test

To encourage people to try the new membership, Setel is currently offering a complimentary two-month trial for new subscribers. This gives users some time to test whether the subscription actually provides enough value based on their own spending habits.

After the trial ends, the subscription will continue at RM4.90 per month unless the user cancels it. That part is important. Anyone signing up mainly for the free trial should make a note to review the subscription before the trial period ends.

At RM4.90 monthly, the price is not expensive, but it still needs to make sense. The value depends heavily on how often a person uses Setel and whether they take advantage of the included rewards.

Setel Is Slowly Becoming More Than a Fuel App

This new subscription also comes shortly after Setel introduced in-app bill payments. That feature allows users to settle utility and household bills directly through the app.

This shows that Setel is continuing to expand beyond its original purpose. Many Malaysians first knew Setel as a convenient way to pay for fuel without going to the counter or using a card terminal at the pump. Now, the app is becoming more of a daily payment and rewards platform.

The bigger strategy seems clear. Setel wants users to open the app not only when they are at a petrol station, but also when they are paying bills, charging an EV, buying items at Kedai Mesra, or managing car-related services.

Is Setel Savers Worth It?

Setel Savers could be worthwhile for users who are already active within the Setel ecosystem. If you regularly fuel up using Setel, buy items from Kedai Mesra, use EV charging services, or plan to claim vehicle maintenance cashback, the RM4.90 monthly fee may be reasonable.

However, casual users should look at their own usage first. A subscription only makes sense if the rewards and savings are greater than the monthly cost. Otherwise, it becomes another small recurring payment that is easy to forget.

In simple terms, Setel Savers is best suited for users who already use Setel frequently. For them, the membership could turn normal everyday spending into extra rewards. For occasional users, the two-month trial may be the best way to test whether it is genuinely useful before paying monthly.
