Xiaomi 17T Series Officially Arrives In Malaysia With Leica Cameras, Bigger Batteries, And Flagship-Level Features

Xiaomi has officially introduced its new Xiaomi 17T Series in Malaysia, bringing two models into the local market: the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro. As expected from Xiaomi's T Series, the new lineup focuses on offering high-end features at a more competitive price point, while still keeping enough differences between the standard and Pro models to appeal to different types of users.

This year's refresh feels more substantial than a simple yearly update. Xiaomi is giving the 17T Series a stronger camera identity through Leica-branded imaging, larger silicon-carbon batteries, upgraded AMOLED displays, and improved cooling. The company is also doing something different for the T Series this time by offering the two models in distinct sizes. The Xiaomi 17T Pro takes the larger and more premium role, while the standard Xiaomi 17T is positioned as the slightly more compact option for users who still want flagship-inspired features without going all the way to the Pro model.

A Bigger Push Into Leica Mobile Photography

One of the biggest talking points for the Xiaomi 17T Series is the camera system. Both the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro come with a triple-camera setup led by a 50MP main camera. This is paired with a Leica 5x telephoto camera, giving both devices stronger zoom capability than what many users may expect from a non-Ultra Xiaomi device.

The telephoto system supports up to 120x AI zoom, which is clearly designed to give users more flexibility when shooting faraway subjects. Xiaomi also says the telephoto camera can be used for macro photography from as close as 30cm. That adds another layer of usefulness, especially for users who enjoy close-up shots of food, products, plants, and small details.

Optical image stabilisation is included as well, which should help with sharper photos and steadier video capture. This is especially useful when shooting in lower light or when using zoom, where even small hand movements can become more noticeable.

Leica Live Moment And More Creative Photo Features

Xiaomi is also introducing a new feature called Leica Live Moment. Instead of capturing only a still photo, this mode records motion and short moments around the shot. It gives photos a more lively and expressive feel, especially for scenes involving people, pets, travel, or anything with movement.

Portrait photography also receives some extra attention. The Xiaomi 17T Series includes Leica-inspired bokeh effects, giving portrait shots a more stylised look. Xiaomi has also added new Leica watermarks and collage options, which may appeal to users who like sharing polished photos directly on social media without needing extra editing.

This continued Leica branding shows how Xiaomi is trying to make its camera experience feel more premium and recognisable. It is not just about megapixel counts anymore. The focus is increasingly on image character, colour science, portrait rendering, and the overall shooting experience.

Brighter AMOLED Displays With Stronger Eye-Care Features

Both phones in the Xiaomi 17T Series feature 1.5K AMOLED displays with peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. That level of brightness should make the phones easier to view outdoors, especially under strong sunlight, which is a practical benefit for Malaysian users.

The displays also come with TÜV Rheinland quadruple eye-care certification. This is important because many people now spend long hours reading, scrolling, gaming, watching videos, and working from their phones. Eye-care features may not sound as exciting as camera upgrades or charging speeds, but they do matter for daily comfort.

There is also a difference in refresh rate between the two models. The Xiaomi 17T Pro supports up to 144Hz, while the standard Xiaomi 17T supports up to 120Hz. Both should feel smooth in normal daily use, but the Pro model gets the extra advantage for users who care about faster display response, gaming, and a more fluid interface.

Larger Silicon-Carbon Batteries And Improved Cooling

Battery life is another major upgrade for the Xiaomi 17T Series. Xiaomi is using its latest silicon-carbon battery technology, allowing the company to fit larger battery capacities into the phones while keeping the design practical.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro gets a 7,000mAh battery, which is a major capacity for a performance-focused phone. It also supports 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge. This makes the Pro model particularly appealing for users who want both long endurance and fast top-ups.

The standard Xiaomi 17T comes with a 6,500mAh battery and supports 67W HyperCharge. While it does not match the Pro model's charging speed, it still offers a large battery capacity and fast wired charging, which should be more than enough for most users.

Both phones also come with Xiaomi's 3D IceLoop cooling system. This is especially useful for gaming, camera recording, navigation, and other tasks that can generate heat over time. Better thermal management helps maintain performance and comfort during longer sessions.

Xiaomi 17T Pro: The More Powerful Flagship Option

The Xiaomi 17T Pro is the higher-end model in the lineup, and it is clearly designed for users who want stronger performance, better charging, and more advanced video capabilities. It comes in Deep Violet, Deep Blue, and Black colour options, giving it a more premium and slightly understated look.

Inside, the phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, built on a 3nm process. It is paired with 12GB RAM and storage options of up to 1TB. This makes the Pro model more suitable for users who store a lot of apps, photos, videos, games, and offline content on their device.

The 17T Pro also gets additional video-focused camera features, including 4K 60fps cinematic recording and Live cinematography modes with zoom effects. These features suggest Xiaomi is not only targeting casual photography users, but also people who want to create more polished video content directly from their phone.

Another design detail worth noting is the use of LIPO packaging technology, which allows the phone to achieve symmetrical 1.29mm bezels around the display. This gives the front of the device a cleaner and more refined appearance, helping it feel more like a premium flagship.

Xiaomi 17T: A More Compact But Still Capable Alternative

The standard Xiaomi 17T is not simply a stripped-down model. It still carries many of the same core features from the series, including the Leica camera system, 1.5K AMOLED display, large battery, and fast charging support.

It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra processor, built on a 4nm process. The phone also comes with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. For most users, this should still provide strong performance for everyday tasks, multitasking, gaming, photography, and entertainment.

The 6,500mAh battery is also a major strength. Combined with 67W HyperCharge, the standard Xiaomi 17T should be a practical option for users who want reliable battery life without necessarily needing the Pro model's larger battery or wireless charging support.

Colour options for the Xiaomi 17T include Violet, Blue, Opal White, and Black. This gives the standard model a slightly wider range of finishes, including a brighter and cleaner Opal White option for users who prefer a lighter design.

Pricing And Availability In Malaysia

The Xiaomi 17T Series is now available for pre-order in Malaysia from 28 May until 11 June 2026. Customers can place their pre-orders through Xiaomi stores nationwide, Xiaomi's official website, and the brand's official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro starts at RM2,899 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. The 12GB + 512GB model is priced at RM3,199, while the highest 12GB + 1TB version is priced at RM3,499.

For the standard Xiaomi 17T, the 12GB + 512GB version is priced at RM2,499. There is also an online-exclusive 12GB + 256GB variant priced at RM2,399.

As part of the pre-order promotion, customers who purchase the Xiaomi 17T Pro or the Xiaomi 17T 12GB + 512GB variant will receive a free Redmi Pad 2 9.7 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Xiaomi is also including additional digital benefits such as extended warranty, screen breakage protection, YouTube Premium, Spotify Premium, and Google AI Pro subscriptions.

However, the free gift does not apply to the online-exclusive Xiaomi 17T 12GB + 256GB model, so buyers should take note of the specific variant before placing an order.

Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi 17T Series feels like a confident update for Xiaomi's upper mid-range and near-flagship segment in Malaysia. The combination of Leica cameras, larger silicon-carbon batteries, bright AMOLED displays, strong charging speeds, and improved cooling makes the series more complete than before.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro is clearly the more exciting option for users who want better performance, faster charging, wireless charging, larger storage, and more advanced video features. At the same time, the standard Xiaomi 17T still looks like a strong choice for users who want many of the same core experiences in a slightly more compact and more affordable package.

With pre-orders now open and free gifts available for selected variants, Xiaomi is positioning the 17T Series as a serious option for Malaysians looking for a feature-packed smartphone without moving into ultra-premium flagship pricing.
