MCMC Unveils MyTMAP2030, Strengthening AI Standards and Digital Adoption

Malaysia has taken another bold step in shaping its digital future with the launch of the Strategic Communications and Multimedia Technology Roadmap 2025–2030 (MyTMAP2030). The initiative, announced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), sets out a five-year blueprint to accelerate the nation's progress in communications, multimedia, and digital transformation.

The roadmap was officially introduced during the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)–MCMC Bridging the Standardisation Gap (BSG) Workshop on AI Standards and Governance, held in Kuala Lumpur.

Driving Innovation Through Emerging Technologies

At its core, MyTMAP2030 is designed to help Malaysia harness emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced connectivity, and cloud computing. By setting clearer guidelines and encouraging adoption, the roadmap aims to foster innovation across industries, enhance public trust in AI, and build a stronger foundation for digital services.

MCMC highlighted that AI standards and governance will play a pivotal role in this journey. Responsible and ethical frameworks, the agency stressed, are essential to ensure inclusivity, cooperation, and long-term trust in the country's digital ecosystem.

Regional Collaboration on AI Standards

The ITU-MCMC BSG Workshop, which ran from September 9 to 13, gathered policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region. The objective: to strengthen collaboration on AI governance and to share insights into evolving standards.

Highlights of the workshop included:

This combination of policy dialogue and hands-on examples provided participants with both strategic direction and practical insights into AI adoption.

Global and Regional Recognition

The workshop also drew praise from key ITU leaders. Seizo Onoe, director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau, commended Malaysia's strong commitment to advancing digital development. He emphasised that the roadmap and workshop represent important milestones for not just Malaysia, but the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Similarly, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, highlighted how this collaboration strengthens AI capacity-building, narrows standardisation gaps, and promotes inclusive digital ecosystems.

He also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and MCMC's regional partners, underscoring the collective effort needed to ensure that the benefits of AI are widely shared across nations.

Building an Inclusive Digital Future

MCMC noted that the roadmap and the regional partnership are part of a long-term commitment to continuous development in AI, communications, and multimedia technologies.

The message is clear: Malaysia is positioning itself not only as a regional leader in AI governance and digital adoption but also as a proactive partner in shaping how these technologies can contribute to economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development.

With MyTMAP2030, the country now has a structured plan to guide its digital journey over the next five years, ensuring that technology adoption is responsible, secure, and inclusive.
