The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has rolled out an update for its MyJPJ mobile app on both Android and iOS, bringing a refreshed interface along with a few new additions. While the update isn't a complete overhaul, it does introduce some changes aimed at making the app more accessible and easier to use.
A Cleaner Interface With Faster Access
One of the first things users will notice is the updated home screen. The new layout puts commonly used functions right up front, making it quicker to handle everyday tasks.
From the main page, you can now easily:
• Manage road tax
• View and pay summons
There's also a carousel section that highlights announcements and updates from JPJ, keeping users informed without needing to dig through menus.
Guest Mode Makes Things More Flexible
A useful addition is the new guest mode, which allows users to access certain features without logging in. This can be handy if you just need to check basic information quickly without going through the sign-in process.
Of course, more personalised services still require an account, but for casual use, this adds a bit more convenience.
Chatbot Feature — Useful, But Still Basic
Another new feature is the built-in chatbot. It's available directly within the app, although not in the most obvious place. Instead of appearing in the main menu, it's tucked behind the MyJPJ icon at the bottom of the screen.
As for what it can do, the chatbot is currently more suited for general queries rather than personalised assistance. For example, it can guide users on where to print a physical driving licence, but it won't provide specific details like your licence expiry date.
So while it's a step in the right direction, it still feels somewhat limited in its current form.
MyDigital ID Still Not Mandatory — For Now
Despite earlier plans, the app has yet to fully enforce MyDigital ID as the only login method.
JPJ had previously scheduled the rollout in stages — first targeting February, then March, and later May. However, as of now, users can still access the app without being forced to switch over completely.
Final Thoughts
The latest MyJPJ update is a welcome improvement, especially with its cleaner interface and added flexibility through guest mode. The chatbot, while not groundbreaking yet, hints at a more interactive experience in the future.
For now, it's more of a quality-of-life update than a major upgrade — but it's a sign that the app is gradually evolving to better serve Malaysian drivers.
