Microsoft Finally Responds: “We Hear the Backlash — And Yes, Windows Has a Lot to Fix”

Over the past week, the Windows community has been buzzing with frustration, criticism, and very vocal backlash. And for once, the noise grew loud enough that Microsoft couldn't ignore it.

This all started when Pavan Davaluri, Microsoft's Head of Windows, shared a vision of Windows evolving into an "agentic OS" — essentially, an operating system deeply powered by AI assistance. While that might sound exciting to some, the reaction online was the complete opposite. Instead of applause, Davaluri was met with complaints from users saying the OS is already struggling with basic issues, inconsistent UI, bugs, and reduced control for power users.

Things got so heated that he eventually had to lock down replies on his original X (Twitter) post.

Now, Davaluri has finally responded — and his message reveals something Windows users have been wanting to hear for years.

Users Push Back: "Fix Windows First, AI Later"

The online criticism wasn't about rejecting AI completely. Most people simply feel that Windows still has many unresolved problems — from design inconsistencies to missing power-user features, to the ever-controversial Windows 11 taskbar.

The common sentiment:
"Why talk about futuristic AI when the basics still feel broken?"

Developers and advanced users were especially vocal, claiming the OS has become increasingly user-hostile, overly automated, and less customizable. Many expressed concern that Microsoft is slowly taking control away from the user and pushing the OS toward a one-size-fits-all AI-centric model.

Microsoft Acknowledges the Problems — Publicly

In a follow-up post responding directly to feedback from @GergelyOrosz, Davaluri offered a rare public admission: the Windows team knows things are not where they should be.

Some key points from his message:

This is not something Microsoft says lightly. Publicly admitting that Windows has "a lot to fix" is a big deal — and a sign that the backlash genuinely hit home.

The AI Push Isn't Going Away — But Users Want Balance

Part of the frustration stems from Microsoft's recent obsession with AI. Windows 11 is now filled with Copilot features, AI-powered settings, and new "intelligent" experiences that don't always work well.

And while Microsoft is excited about a future where Windows becomes an AI-driven assistant, many longtime users feel ignored. Even former Microsoft engineer Dave Plummer recently commented on the increasing decline in Windows fundamentals.

People aren't against innovation — they just want the OS to feel solid, stable, and user-centric again.

The Real Test Is What Microsoft Does Next

While Davaluri's message is encouraging, the community's reaction remains cautious.

After all, Microsoft has acknowledged user complaints many times — yet key frustrations remain unresolved:

Until these issues are actually addressed, users will continue feeling uneasy about Microsoft pushing Windows deeper into AI territory without fixing its fundamentals.

Final Thoughts: A Step Toward Transparency — But Proof Must Follow

It's refreshing to see Microsoft openly acknowledging what the community has been saying for years. Admitting that Windows needs improvement is the first step — but only execution will truly matter.

Unless Microsoft restores important functionality, modernizes the UI consistently, and improves day-to-day stability, talk about an "agentic OS" will only fuel more skepticism.

People love Windows — they just want it to feel like their Windows again.
