Kummute Launches Cross-Border Taxi Service Between Malaysia and Singapore

Travelling between Malaysia and Singapore just got easier. Kummute, the mobility platform best known for its ride-pooling services Kumpool and Kumride, has rolled out a brand-new feature on its app: a licensed cross-border taxi booking service.

This move aims to simplify one of the busiest and most common commutes in Southeast Asia—the Johor-Singapore route—by making official, secure, and cashless taxi rides bookable directly through your phone.

How the Service Works

The service is now live on the Kummute mobile app, where users will notice a "Book a CB Taxi" button represented by a taxi silhouette on the homepage. From there, the booking process works much like any other e-hailing ride, but with a few key differences tailored to cross-border travel.

This setup ensures that the service remains smooth, regulated, and compliant with both Malaysian and Singaporean transport laws.

Payment and Rates

According to the app's FAQ page, all payments are cashless. You can pay directly within the Kummute app using:

Transactions are processed through Kummute's secure payment partner, betterpay, which already powers its other mobility services.

As for pricing, fares will vary depending on distance, travel time, and demand—similar to existing ride-hailing models. Importantly, passengers can currently pay in both Ringgit Malaysia (MYR) and Singapore Dollar (SGD).

Collaboration Across Borders

Behind the scenes, this cross-border initiative is the result of partnerships with licensed taxi associations in both Malaysia and Singapore. This ensures that the service complies with each country's regulations and provides passengers with a legitimate, safe, and transparent alternative to unofficial rides that have long operated along the border.

For commuters and frequent travellers, this could reduce waiting times, streamline planning, and even help avoid long queues at border taxi counters.

What's Next: Phase Two

Kummute isn't stopping here. The company revealed that this is just Phase One of its cross-border taxi service. A second phase is already in the works, which will introduce more features and innovations designed to "further elevate the cross-border journey."

While details are still under wraps, expectations are high that future updates could include:

Why This Matters

Cross-border travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore is one of the busiest daily commutes in Asia, with hundreds of thousands of people crossing each day for work, education, shopping, and leisure. Until now, booking a licensed cross-border taxi often meant queuing at designated terminals, dealing with limited availability, or relying on unofficial operators.

By digitising and streamlining the process, Kummute is positioning itself as a key player in regional mobility innovation, while offering commuters a safer, more reliable, and more transparent option.
