In Malaysia, that conversation is becoming more concrete through My-AI Standards, which Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo says is meant to function as part of the country's trust infrastructure for AI development.

It starts the way a lot of online harm starts these days: fast, public, and completely out of the victim's control. An Indonesian singer and public figure, Fransisca Saraswati (also known professionally as Sisca Saras), discovered an AI-generated image of her spreading across X. The account behind it was anonymous, but what made it even more unsettling was that the image wasn't just posted randomly. The tool used to create it, Grok, reportedly tagged her publicly, even though she had not agreed to anything.

Malaysia is moving toward a more "grown-up" way of dealing with artificial intelligence: not by banning it, not by pretending it's just another app feature, but by building a national framework that spells out who's responsible for what when AI systems are created, deployed, and used at scale. That's the basic direction of the upcoming AI Governance Bill, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

Malaysia's internet regulator is taking a harder line against X, as concerns grow over the safety risks posed by its AI chatbot, Grok. According to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is now considering legal action against the platform for failing to adequately protect users.
