WhatsApp has spent the past few years adding more privacy-focused messaging options, especially for users who do not want every message to remain in a chat forever. The platform already has View Once messages, which can only be opened once, and Disappearing Messages, which automatically removes messages after a selected period.

WhatsApp appears to be preparing a much bigger step for Apple CarPlay, and it looks like the messaging experience in the car may soon become far more polished than what users have today. Instead of relying almost entirely on Siri voice commands, WhatsApp is now reportedly testing a native CarPlay app that brings a proper on-screen interface into the dashboard environment.

WhatsApp may soon become a lot more flexible. Following earlier tests of "guest chats" for people who don't have the app, the platform is now experimenting with something even bigger: the ability to message users on completely different messaging apps.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new privacy-centric feature called the "username key," a tool designed to give users more control over who can contact them. First spotted by WABetaInfo, this feature builds on WhatsApp's earlier idea known as the "username PIN," but with a clearer purpose—and a new name to match.
