Maybank Tightens Security: Secure2u Approvals Now Require Biometric Authentication

In its ongoing mission to strengthen digital banking security, Maybank is introducing biometric authentication for all Secure2u approvals on the MAE app. This move is part of the bank's continued effort to combat online fraud and safeguard customer transactions in an era of increasingly sophisticated scams.

A New Layer of Protection for Secure2u

Starting 29 October, Maybank began rolling out the new feature in phases. Once it reaches your device, every Secure2u transaction approval will now require your biometric verification — either through facial recognition or fingerprint.

In simple terms, no transaction can be completed without confirming that you are the one approving it. This ensures that even if someone gains access to your device or account credentials, they still won't be able to authorise transactions without your biometric match.

Phase One: Third-Party Transfers First

The first wave of this rollout focuses on third-party transfers, which are commonly targeted in online fraud. This includes:

Over time, biometric approval will extend to other types of transactions as well. This gradual rollout allows Maybank to test system stability and gather feedback before expanding it to more banking services.

Complementing Maybank's Other Anti-Fraud Tools

This isn't the bank's only line of defence. The biometric update works in tandem with existing measures such as:

Together, these tools form a multi-layered protection system that makes it far harder for scammers to breach customer accounts.

What Users Can Expect When Approving Transactions

For most users, the process remains smooth and familiar. When making a transaction through the MAE app:

This extra verification step adds only a few seconds to your transaction — but drastically increases your account safety.

When in Doubt, Use the Kill Switch

Despite stronger security measures, Maybank reminds users that vigilance is still crucial. If you ever suspect that someone has unauthorised access to your Maybank2u account, activate the "Kill Switch" immediately.

This emergency feature instantly freezes your account to prevent further misuse. You can trigger it directly through the MAE app or via Maybank2u web, giving you immediate control over your banking security at any time.

Why This Matters

Digital banking convenience comes with its share of risks, and Malaysia has seen a rise in financial scams in recent years. By linking Secure2u approvals to biometric authentication, Maybank is reinforcing trust and giving customers peace of mind that only they can approve transactions from their accounts.

It's a small change that represents a big leap forward — showing that Maybank isn't just keeping up with technology, but staying ahead of it.
