By the early 90s, Tetris had already become a global phenomenon. Nintendo decided to follow up on the success of the original with a new take on the formula: Tetris 2, released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. Instead of simply stacking tetrominoes to clear lines, Tetris 2 introduced fresh puzzle mechanics that combined the addictive speed of Tetris with the strategy of match-three games.

In 1989, Nintendo brought Tetris to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), transforming a simple puzzle concept into a global gaming phenomenon. Originally designed by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union, the NES version of Tetris became one of the most iconic and addictive games of all time.

When the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) launched in 1990, it needed a title that would showcase the power of Nintendo's new hardware. Enter F-Zero, a futuristic racing game that not only pushed the limits of technology with its Mode 7 graphics, but also redefined what speed felt like in a video game.

In 1991, DMA Design (later known as Rockstar North) released a puzzle game that would become one of the most iconic titles of the decade: Lemmings (DOS). What seemed like a simple idea—guiding a group of tiny creatures to safety—quickly turned into one of the most addictive, challenging, and charming games of its era.

In 1995, Blizzard Entertainment released Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, the sequel to Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. Building on the RTS foundations of the first game, it expanded the conflict between Humans and Orcs beyond Azeroth, adding new units, new races, and groundbreaking gameplay features that cemented its place as one of the greatest strategy games of the 90s.
