PayNet Teams Up with Alipay+ and Weixin Pay to Make Spending Easier for Tourists in Malaysia

As Malaysia gears up for the peak travel season, tourists from China and across Asia are getting a more convenient way to spend—without ever needing to exchange cash. Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) has partnered with two major digital wallet giants—Alipay+ and Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay)—to roll out seamless QR code payments nationwide through Malaysia's national DuitNow QR platform.

This strategic collaboration isn't just about tech. It's about making life easier for tourists, supporting local merchants, and giving the tourism sector a healthy boost.

One QR Code, Many E-Wallets: A Win for Everyone

If you've ever fumbled with foreign currency while traveling, you'll appreciate this: visitors from China, South Korea, the Philippines, and other parts of Asia can now pay for things in Malaysia just by scanning a DuitNow QR code using their own e-wallets—like AlipayCN, KakaoPay, or GCash—through Alipay+ and Weixin Pay.

There's no need to download new apps or sign up for local services. This interoperability means tourists can stick to what they're familiar with while local merchants enjoy access to a much wider customer base. It's a simple change that makes a big difference.

Big Growth Expected by 2025

PayNet expects this initiative to spark rapid growth in QR payments from international visitors. In fact, they're forecasting over 130% growth in DuitNow QR transactions via Alipay+ and Weixin Pay by 2025.

And to sweeten the deal? Both payment platforms are rolling out limited-time promotions that will encourage visitors to not only spend, but to explore more of what Malaysia has to offer.

What This Means for Malaysia's Tourism and Economy

This isn't just about smoother payments. The move is part of a bigger effort to boost tourism and help local businesses tap into the growing cashless economy. By making it easier for tourists to spend, explore, and enjoy, Malaysia is positioning itself as a tourist-friendly, tech-forward destination.

With smart partnerships like these, everyone wins—travelers get convenience, merchants gain visibility, and the country enjoys a more vibrant tourism economy.

In short: If you're visiting Malaysia this summer and already use Alipay+ or Weixin Pay, there's no need to worry about currency exchange or payment hassles. Just scan, pay, and enjoy the ride.
