The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has introduced AIFA (Artificial Intelligence Fact-check Assistant), an AI-powered fact-checking chatbot, officially launched by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. This service aims to curb misinformation by offering users a reliable platform to verify online claims. AIFA can be accessed through the Sebenarnya.my portal or via WhatsApp at 03-86887997.

AIFA is designed to improve the Sebenarnya.my portal by providing quick and convenient access to accurate information. According to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the chatbot serves three main purposes: helping the public verify the authenticity of news, delivering prompt responses to online misinformation, and reinforcing the portal's role in curbing the spread of fake news in Malaysia. AIFA leverages advanced algorithms and machine learning to compare user-submitted information with credible sources, delivering accurate and verified responses. The chatbot currently supports four languages—Malay, English, Mandarin, and Tamil—making it accessible to a diverse audience. However, it only processes text input for now, with future plans to incorporate video and graphic verification. Fahmi emphasized that AIFA's goal is to equip the public with reliable information.

The minister also stated that MCMC will maintain close collaboration with social media platforms and enforcement agencies to combat the spread of fake news. This initiative will be further extended through 1,100 Digital Community Centres across the country, ensuring that all Malaysians, regardless of their background, can benefit from the program. Fahmi disclosed that MCMC identified 20,000 cases of fake news last year, with more than 17,000 removed from social media following verification. As of January 27, 2025, the agency has detected 1,575 instances of misinformation, successfully taking down 1,233 of them.
